About the call for proposals
This call for proposals of The Research Counil of Norway relates to funding for research stays at a Norwegian research organisation for foreign researchers who are employed at an institution outside of Norway. The Norwegian host institution must submit the application and serve as the Project Owner.
This call has an open-ended submission deadline, i.e. grant applications may be submitted at any time during the year, and will be processed on an ongoing basis.
Research stays are to have a duration of minimum one month, and maximum 12 months.
This is a joint call for proposals across multiple activities under the Research Council. You may only apply for support from the activities/programmes that are listed in the call. Please note that some activities may operate with special requirements and guidelines for this type of funding. Applicants are therefore advised to consult the relevant activity for information about any specific requirements and guidelines. The Norwegian-language call for proposals is the legally binding version.
Who is eligible to apply?
It is the Norwegian host institution that is to submit the grant application.
The host institution is normally an approved Norwegian research organisation. Any exceptions to this will be described below in the text for the specific activity/thematic area from which funding is being sought.
Who can participate in the project?
This call is open to grant applications for designated visiting researchers who are employed at foreign research institutions. The visiting researcher must have an approved doctorate or equivalent qualifications before submission of the grant application.

What can you seek funding for?
- The Norwegian host institution may apply for funding for a research stay in Norway for a visiting researcher for a period of 1–12 months.
- It is only possible to apply for the fixed rate for research stays in Norway for visiting researchers and coverage of travel expenses (cheapest mode of transport).
- The grant application must be submitted no later than six weeks before the start of the research stay.
- The visiting researcher must begin the research stay in Norway during the calendar year following the submission of the grant application. This means that if a grant application is submitted in 2021, the research stay must begin no later than 2022.
